Software for Small Business 2008 Edition
you improve efficiency and productivity
By: Iain Williamson
This book introduces the reader to over 200 software programs that will help small business owners and those who work at home. It will also benefit those in larger organizations, since many of the products can also be used in a networked environment. In addition, it will also help those studying business at school or college. Software for Small Business is written for novices as well as experienced computer users. For new users, it offers suggestions on selecting the right kind of computer hardware and factors to consider when calculating the total cost of ownership. It covers basic software such as word processing, desktop publishing, graphics, digital photos, voice dictation and optical character recognition. It reviews software for making presentations and new developments in the area of interactive learning. There are chapters on spreadsheets, databases, data mining, plus reviews of Canadian accounting software, business planning, scheduling and Customer Relationship Management. There are sections on Web site creation, e-commerce, editing video and audio together with important chapters on utilities and security. Reviews cover the new products contained in Adobe's Creative Suite 3 as well as the new 2007 Microsoft Office system. The final chapter takes a critical look at Microsoft's new operating system, Vista. Author, Iain Williamson, says: "This is a ‘concept book’ which will you an idea of what these programs can do. It will not teach you how to operate any specific piece of software. Instead, it describes the main features and strengths of each program so you can make an informed purchasing decision. It will be an invaluable reference if you do not have the time to research the market for yourself." New software is also coming out on the marketplace at an incredibly fast pace and it is a major challenge to stay abreast of the latest developments. Williamson says: "my book is revised annually to provide you with the latest information."
